Bird Watching safaris in Masai Mara

The Masai mara reserve is also an amazing place for bird watching, the winged creatures   range from water birds, migratory birds, forest birds and savanna birds. Much as is the big cats that fascinate the travelers, the birds too can fascinate. Masai mara constitutes up to 470 bird species some of which include ostriches, sun birds and about   46 birds of prey.

The savanna is filled ground hornbill with a size mounting to that of a turkey, Kori bustard, white stalks, secretary birds, plovers. The water areas are filled saddle backed stalk waiting to catch fish, grey herons, kind fishers, cormorants, Egyptian geese, goliath heron, yellow billed stalk, great white egrets, crested cranes and many more.

The vultures are then easy to spot as they zone in on lion kills and guests are often surprised by the sheer number of these birds to see. Several different vultures have been identified so far.

The birds of prey are often the favorites and you can see the large martial eagles over the Mara, which are the largest in Africa. These birds are so powerful that they prey on young impala and different birds. Not just a home of this giant, you can also find the tiny pygmy falcon at home here.
